i have a palm iiixe, and i use it for scheduling and expenses. this is what the replacement will be for. oh and a few games as well.

my question is this, which platform, linux, pocketpc, or even palm, has the best software for my tasks? right now i'm using datebk 4 for palm. that is sufficient for my needs. i am also using money for my expenses. there is no way i could use the default palm software, they don't offer enough functionality for me.

i really want to get a linux one, because i like working in command line occasionally, but i worry about the availability of software.

I can bet that PocketPC has a lot more apps than linux PDAs and Palm PDAs have the most software variety. In addition, from screenshots I've seen, Linux PDAs are also bloated and have fancy GUIs, which is what many Linux users are avoiding. I'm not sure if Linux PDAs have command line. Even if the Sharp PDA has command line, inputing via stylus will be slow and inefficient.

I use a WinCE 2.11 PDA. I'd recommend getting a Pocket PC or PocketPC 2002. In addition, the Visor Prism is quite nice, and can be had for $200 these days :)

hmm maybe you're right. now that i think about it, pocketpc is mainly corporate crowd, so it'd make sense that they'd have good scheduling and expense software.

do you know if there are any terminal emulation programs like tera term pro for pocketpc? i need to be able to ssh into some unix machines...

<< did somebody say linux?? >>

yes. Some people hacked the Philips Nino 500 rom to run linux a long while back. It was snazzy :)
