For music, nothing beats soulseek. And nicotine is the client you will want to use.

Limewire is god awful though.

Kazaa works under wine, if you want to fight with it for a long time. And soulseek is still way better for music. And you might have a smaller chance of the gestapo coming after you. 😉

A little bird told me that the edonkey2000 network is good for (legal, of course 😉) high quality full album releases in RAR or Zip format. A Linux client to try is xmule.
