Linux or Windows

should I use Ubuntu linux or Windows 2k

All I wanna do is surf the web, play games using Java and other programs like it
Can I do that on Ubuntu (or any linux) without wine (does it even work in flash apps?)

would I be able to get Counter strike to work (using wine if need be)

If Ubuntu is as good as Fedora 6 is, I'd go with it over any version of Windows.

There is a Linux native flash 9, and if it's as easy to install as flash 7 shouldn't be too bad. And java should install, although I don't know how difficult that will be. I haven't tried (I don't like Java or Flash 😛).

CS should work under wine or cedega or crossover office, but I've never tried.

CS 1.6 should work fine under Wine. If you have an ATI card, the drivers might be a little bit of a hassle to get to work properly but since 1.6 has low system requirements it should work alright with any ATI drivers you can install

sweet..

I'll use my Ubuntu

What exactly is Cedega?

I dunno what version teh CounterStrik I have is, it's the one in the Holiday Source Pack

I bet I couldn't use it with Onboard sound, huh?

Cedega is a product made by transgaming (I think), and it's trying to be the wine for games specifically.

I don't see why onboard sound wouldn't work...

Oh Counterstrike: Source? Here is a great guide to get CS:S/CS 1.6 running through Wine. I tried CS:S under Ubuntu and the FPS was terrible compared to Windows. I would stick with Windows since you have Counterstrike: Source instead of CS 1.6

wow... that was a brain slip lol

onboard video
guess it really is time for bed

night all, and thanks
