Linux on the i815, experiences? Anyone get the built-in NIC to work?

Looks like we are going to start getting i815 machines at work. I played with one for an afternoon, but couldn't get the built-in NIC to work. It recognized it as an Intel, and tried to use the eepro drivers, but it didn't work. Got the built in video to work though.

I couldn't even boot the RedHat 6.2 installer, and I am not going to use RH7 in a production environment. Ugh. Why, oh why did RedHat do such a stupid thing with their C package?

So, anyone have a lot of experience with Linux on i815 machines and want to share any tips/tricks? I will likely start integrating these machines in the spring.

How did you get the onboard NIC to work? You have a CNR?

Like I said above, I didn't get the onboard NIC to work. The RedHat7 installer seemed to recognize it as an Intel and tried to use the eepro module, but it didn't work.

Not that I would use RedHat7...

Normally the onboard NIC is not active until you have a CNR plugged in.

Really, hmm... I guess I don't know what that is. So, they have an RJ45 port and somehow integrated NIC, but no way to use it unless you buy a CNR card?

Oh...you already have an RJ-45 port?

I had assumed that your i815E board was standard and had no RJ-45 port....since that is what the CNR provides: an RJ-45 port to access the Intel 82559 PRO100+ VE NIC.

Yeah, these boards. (I think they are OEM Intel boards) have Video/Audio/ethernet out right on the board.

Arent there drivers for that on Intel's site?
They do have video drivers for the i8x0 series at least.

You could allways have a look at RedHat network's HCL, at least the i810 is listed as compatible there, dont know about the i815.
