Linux on PS3

Is anyone here running linux on their PS3? I seem to remember from a long time ago that there were weird formatting requirements - something like having to have one of the partitions be 10 GB, and the other partition must fill the rest of the space. So you could have 50 GB PS3 and 10 GB Linux or 50 GB Linux and 10 GB PS3. Something like that. Does that sound familiar? Is that still the case?

I investigated this as well, but the Yellow Dog Linux website should clear things up http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/tss_home.shtml

From their website:
You are presented with option to "Allot 10GB to the Other OS" or "Allot
10GB to the PS3 System." Allocating the majority for YDL (Other OS) is
recommended, independent of the size of your drive.

That document is dated July 2007. I'm wondering if they've changed that in one of the updates they've done since then, because that's really freaking stupid. Anyone?

Can PS3 demos be downloaded to an external hard drive?

Tried Ubuntu and Xubuntu, both hang during the install 🙁 (latest builds for the PS3)

Allocated 10gb to the other OS.

From what I've read, you can format the drive however you want from a PC, then install it back in the PS3 without problem.

yes formating is like that, you can only have 10gb/rest partition scheme. but just make your linux volume 10gb and you can mount network drives or usb drives for storage.
