Linux on an IPAQ pocket PC running WINE - possible?

A friend of mine (a cute foreign exchange student from Kazakhstan) is interested in purchasing a translator.

In light of my recent purchase of a Compaq IPAQ H3150 from UBid for $139, I was thinking about one for her.

I've heard of people installing linux on these things. I also know of the existence of WINE, the Windows 'emulator' for linux. I was curious as to whether or not it would run on an IPAQ running linux.

And, if it would, if it would indeed run the translator that I'm thinking about acquiring for her. (L&H Power Translator pro v7)

Ideas? Suggestions? Advice? Free money?

I haven't seen a PocketPC/WinCE version of this particular translator, but I've just started my search. Add to that I'm just a bit curious as to whether or not it could be done at all. :p

I dont know much about wine so I cant really help out too much there, but why complicate things with adding linux to the ipaq?

Linux runs native on the IPAQ...thats what you heard about...things are just getting started in the Linux handheld market... there will be handheld products shipping by major mfgrs (Sony, Sharp, etc) based on Linux by the end of the year.

Here are some pics for the impatient:

Oh yeah..just to clarify... WINE is NOT an emulator..there is ZERO emulation going on...

Wine is an implementation of the Windows 3.x and Win32 APIs on top of X and Unix. Think of Wine as a Windows compatibility layer.

This allows Windows programs to run as normal Linux programs, just using some different libraries ... much like running KDE apps in GNOME etc..

Oh yeah..just to clarify... that's why I had quoted the word 'emulator' in my original post. ;) I already knew it wasn't an emulator in the true sense of the word, but the loosest and most general terms seem to fit it. :)

But I do thank you for your attempts to 'correct' me. ;) :p
