Anyone have any experience running Linux on a I8600 laptop?

Any gotcha's to look out for?

Will the Nvidia Geforce Go5650, or the ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 Pro give less hassels with Xfree86?
I'm considering either the WUXGA (1920x1600) or the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screens.

Does either card support using an extrnal monitor as a second desktop? At what resolutions?
In Linux? In Windows?

How about the Builtin MiniPCI Dell 1400 802.11(A/B/G) wireless card? How tough is it to get that
to work?

This is the best place to go for people's experiance with linux on laptops.

Linux on Laptops

They have 4 user testimonials on howto configure linux for the i8600.

this is just one of them

Of course different distros differ slightly and new versions tend to have better support, but this hopefully will help you out.

I'm trying to get Mandrake to work properly. I can't seem to install drivers for the radeon 9600 pro turbo.
I have touched it for a while. I'll continue working on it later.

I'd really prefer to get teh 128MB video if it's possible to run Linux with it.

Has anyone ever gotten the ATI 9600 mobility to work in XFree86? All of the 5 exaples posted earlier were all with NVidia chips. :(

Maybe I should look to get my hands on the 128MB Nvidia 5650 video card that Dell had available about a month ago?

Thanks,
