i got an old ass computer and want to install linux on it and learn it a little, what is the easiest build to install and learn on?

I bought the book "Linux for Non-Geeks". It came w/Fedora Core 1. Got me up and on line in less than an hour.

I've tried to install Linux for about two years, now. First, Corel (maybe I forgot), then another version, and finally the version that HP is now selling, and have NEVER seen it work. I've tried old computers, not so old computers, and now a new one -- an AMD 2600, and never gotten them to install. In fact, I called the vendor of the program, gotten tech support, etc., and finally, I complained, and they gave me my money back. It's likely my problem, but no one seems to know what to do.

I have found that Mandrake is easy to install. It recognized all of my hardware right off the bat, Red Hat Enterprise did not.

Suse worked for me on a laptop. Everything was up and running, without any problems at all. Fairly new laptop too.

(Suse 9.1)

Try Beatrix. It comes as a 200mb live cd. But you can install it to your harddrive. It has been the first distro that installed perfectly the first time with no problems. Definately worth a glance.
