Linux newbie question: is there a 'netwwort neighborhood' equiv?

If you're running KDE I think they have an equivalent. If not then I have no idea where to find stuff like that.

theres a few clients that behave like that for windows file sharing. but windows file sharing sucks. why do u want to imitate that under linux unless its to access windows legacy systems.

I'm just so used to the windows filesharing system (sucks or not). I have 5 w2k machines in my office and one linux machine. I started using linux b/c I cannot imagine paying for another windows update. I've just paid 6 w2k licensces, 6 office 2k licenses, as well as tons of other windows application (probably well over 20K for the entire office). Now that the xp things are going to come out, I'm going to be out another 20+ grand. It's not that I'm a techno freak who wants the latest, it's simple business sense. If I get a file on xp from a client, that means I mostlikely won't be able to use it on my w2k systems (try using work 2k file with word 97). And even with w2k, I still probably do a clean reboot every 8 - 10 months b/c of accumulation of erros...I can't imagine having to call up Microsoft everytime to get a code! Anyways, getting back to the original topic, I'm hoping to get some help in getting some sample files from office 2k to try it on star office/koffice, to see how clean the import features are.

Thanks.
