Linux newbie + old hardware ^_~

Allrighty. I know this forum probably gets a lot of these, but I know you guys are always willing to impart knowledge! I'm putting together an older system that consists of

200mhz AMD CPU
32 RAM (EDO)
Maxtor 540meg HD
Seagate 320meg HD
3com 28.8 modem
(On board video and sound)

I know nothign of Linux..which I wish to fix! For this setup, which version should I use, and will I have any probs with this hardware I should know about? Also, whatever version is best, where can I grab er. I don't have high speed access at the moment ^_^ Boot disks? Install tips? Much appreciated!

Shouldn't have a problem running Linux on that setup. Little shy on RAM, but it will run X, albeit probably a little slowly. Depends more on the vid, which I see is on board, and therefore takes part of the 32MB of RAM for it's memory.

Any of the distro's out today should install and setup just fine. I'd stick with something like Windowmaker for your window manager in X though as it's much less piggy than either KDE or Gnome.

Great! Maybe I can hunt down some more cheap EDO chips(anyone? =) I was thinking of going with Suse 7.1, but are there any distros that are free? I'm not entirely understanding how it works, yet some versions are sold.(I see Red Hat at best buy for like $35) Also... What is X/windows manager? I really am a newbie! Thanks ^_^
