Linux Newbie Needs Some Advice...

another question - how secure is linux as a web/mail server without configuring the firewall, just using port fiorwarding for the needed ports from the router?
 
A suggestion for web development software is Quanta Plus, EXCELLENT program.
It has a homepage at Sourceforge.

As for security, it's really a mix of how good the admin is, and how good the software you use is.
If you just setup an Apache server and make sure it's up to date, you'll likely be fine.

thanks for quanta+, that is exactly what i was looking for.

after using linux for less than 2 weeks, i can see a possible convert here. and wow, as much as i have probably done wrong, being a newbie, i still haven't crashed it. again, thank you all for all the great help, this has made my linux experience excellent. 🙂 🙂
