Linux MPlayer help

I installed Mplayer for linux as well as the mozilla mplayer plugin. But when I try to play a video from within Mozilla I just get the message that says 'Mplayer...loading movie' and it is not actually loading the movie, you could sit there all day and it wouldnt load....any ideas?
