Linux Mint Cloning Glitch . . . vesafb ??

Greetings from Bali.

Just put a new hard drive in the laptop, installed the Mint Sylvia system cloned from the old drive, updated the kernel, and it works just fine.

Problem is, when trying to image the new setup to a backup drive, this appeared:
FATAL: error inserting vesafb (/lib/modules/3.2.0-23-generic/initrd/vesafb.ko) : no such device

So I ran sudo update-grub and now when booting from a Redo cloning disk the process stops on a black screen with a “Welcome to Ubuntu” message. I’m no programmer and I’m stuck.

Can anyone tell me what’s happening and how to fix it ?
