Linux Mint 17.2 - just out! (OFFICIAL)

You shouldn't link directly to files.

Why not?

The release isn't mentioned officially yet. So no pages with mirrors, torrents, etc.

Edit: I got the link (for one of the variants) off of DistroWatch. So if it's wrong to link ISOs directly, they are first in line for blame.

The md5 traces to some Turkish forum. No way in hell am I installing that.

This is why I wait to announce official releases, not some halfwit who uploaded to the stable Distrowatch folder. You're just as much to blame.

I thought that the FTP site that DistroWatch linked, was one of the official Mint mirrors. No? Are you saying that DistroWatch is a shady site? I thought that they were reliable...

If you go to the Linux Mint homepage, they have the 17.2 RC up.

The ISOs I'm talking about, don't have "rc" in their filenames. Should be final release, but it is suspicious that they don't have the announcement up yet on their pages. I'll have to compare MD5s when they do announce the final 17.2 releases.

It's bad enough that I went to validate a direct link you posted (which isn't allowed), don't put words in my mouth. I don't use DistroWatch and frankly don't care about its validity or how it operates.

Thanks for crapping up my thread with FUD.

The official download pages are up on linuxmint.com, and the MD5SUM matches between the ISOs I linked and downloaded, and the official pages.

No wonder the Linux Community isn't growing, with people like you.

I thought it was pretty strange, that "some halfwit" would have upload privileges on a Linux Mint official mirror, and some "Turkish Forum" would upload tainted binary ISOs to it.

I still don't care. If it doesn't come from the official page, I'm not trusting it. I don't regret it one bit.

And if you think that using the main source for software hinders Linux growth because "of people like me" then you download whatever crap you want.

Cool it. If you believe that a poster is straying outside of the forum guidelines, the only correct recourse is to use the Report Post button to bring it to the moderators' attention. Anything else, including posting insult-ridden diatribes, is thread crapping.
