Linux Migration Thread

This is for all the people who have thought of moving(/upgrading 😉) to Linux but, for whatever reason, haven't.

Ubuntu, being Debian based, is a great distribution to get started in.

In the past there have been reasons (ie: 9.04: Intel based graphics problems) to hold off on upgrading. With Ubuntu 9.10, there are no incredibly outstanding issues that I have seen/heard about.

If you don't want Ubuntu or are unsure of what to do or what to try out, just post and ask 🙂!

I installed Fedora 11 last night. Got the Intel driver issues sorted this morning. I'd recommend it for anyone with a bit of linux know how. The install is pretty easy (except for the stupid partitioning step).

Couldn't wait the extra 12 days until Constantine 😉?

I didn't know Intel had issues in non-Debian based systems. Did all Linux distros move the display drivers to Kernel Space?

Nope, I needed a laptop for a conference/training and didn't want to have to use XP. Had to go with something reasonably stable. I have 12-beta downloaded for installation next week though.

Fedora 11 did not have a driver for gma500 Intel chips. A 3rd party repo fixed that right up for me.
