Linux Meets Highpoint Controller??

Ok guys and gals,
i know that there must be a site somewhere that has information on how to install linux without actually taking you hard disk off the highpoint controller on an Abit KT7-Raid. i have been searching for days and have found nothing---i know that mandrake does support the controller but while detecting hardware and ide devices (at the VERY beginning of the install) my sys just locks up. i thought that somewhere i read that you and specify the io parameters at the beginning of the install??
if anyone could just point on the right direction that would great
thanks

hey im in the same boat as you.... 🙁 I asked the question about a week ago.. well it seems that the highpoint controller isn't natively recognized by any kernel under 2.4(or at least red hat 7) and that most distros that have support have it outside of the kernel.. no real big deal for me as I can wait for the kernel RPM's and then switch the drive over to ide1 and boot it patch it up and then try to boot it again from the highpoint.

well i alread have win 2k and win 98 SE loaded on this comp
i am going for the oh-so great triple boot----lol
i do remember one forum that i came across that said that if you go in to the device manager and look at the io string for the comtroller card, copy that down, boot to the cd and then put that string in somehow at the boot: promt????
anyone have info on this??

hehehe I would like to do a triple boot.. but im growing to realize that I don't need 98 anymore 🙂 Installed 2k the other night.. had some problems with one of my games and my soundcard being shared.. but got that fixed.. So although I would like to say I run a triple boot I may not need to now.. and I think whistler will pretty much put the 98 kernel out to pasture.

I found that Abit Gentus linux has the correct drivers installed for the Highpoint conroller but it is not as extensive a distro as mandrake. I prefer mandrake.

i have mandrake and red hat. the thing is i really don't feel like opening my case and flipping around my drives. when i try to install mandrake the installation just freezes(the part where it is detecting ide devices and other lower level hardware.
if i have to i will open my case i was just wondering if anyone knew how to install it without moving the hard drive the via ide controller
thanks

Well the 2.4 kernel has support for it. I enabled it when I downloaded it. It seems to recognize my HPT366 on my BP6 just fine. So, when all the 2.4.x kernel based distributions are out, you should have no troubles at all. I am sure the distros are all trying to get a 2.4 based version out soon.

Well , I have Mandrake Linux , and it didn't seem to install highpoint controller, but it found hdd's from it ; )
