Okay, here's one that I just can't seem to tackle. I have a Maxtor ATA 100 IDE Controller (it's really a rebadged Promise card) and am having one heck of a time getting it to boot just about any linux distro out there. I've read pages like this one which let you pass in ide parameters to the kernel and it works....kind of.
For RedHat 8/9, a command like linux expert ide2=0xdc00,0xe002 ide3=0xe400,0xe802 is ignored and the kernel freezes after finding the drives on the controller. However, it does work when I only pass in one command like linux expert ide2=0xdc00,0xe002 ide3=none ide4=none ide5=none ... etc., with the limitation of having access to only one channel on the card.
Gentoo, Debian, <insert any other distro here> all have similar results. I had the same problem when I had this card in my Pentium II system, and then when I upgraded to my current Athlon one. Any ideas?
