I just installed Mandrake 8 on my system which is already running Win98SE and Win2k. All 3 OSes are in separate partitions. Mandrake 8 booted fine once, but now every time I try to boot into it, it gets stuck on this message: "SMSC Super-IO detection, now testing Ports 2F0, 3F0 ..." Anyone have any ideas on how to get by this?

Also, my system is using the Linux boot manager to select which OS to boot into. Is there any way to use the Win2K manager? Thanks for any hints.

On my mandrake 8 installation, it asks you to login and then starts the super-io detection before you have a chance to log in. I am able to just type my username and password right there (even though it doesn't look as nice as a normal login prompt ;)) You might want to try that.

AFAIK, you can't use the Win2k boot manager to boot linux.

No good. I type in my login name before the Super-IO detection and it still gets stuck once it gets there. I can hit enter and it will get me to the UNIX $ prompt but I don't know what to do there. Is there an equivalent of the Microsoft "win" command that'll get me to the GUI?

Someone emailed me saying I should just type "startx" and that did the trick. Any ideas on using the Win2k boot manager instead of LILO?
