Linux Mandrake 7.2: How to change display refresh rate?

My GeForce2 GTS and the monitor was properly detected, current desktop resolution is 1024x768 60Hz.

How to change the Xfree86 refresh rate to 85Hz?

you can change the XF86Config file in a text editor. comment out the resolutions you don't want, and uncomment the 1024/85Hz line(s).

probably would help to make sure the lines are correct for refresh also.

on XFree86 3.x it should look something like this

HorizSync 30-70
VertRefresh 50-180

make sure the numbers are correct for your monitor
