Linux Mandrake 7.1 Install Problem (Setup filesystems)

When i get to the installation i get the error message "Writing of partition
failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/something_table.pm Line 442" I have a 6 gig hd. It
is partitioned into a 4 gig FAT32 partition and a 2 gig EXT2 Parttion, 180 megs
for the linux swap. The problem is that when it gets to the setup filesystems
part it says it cant read my partition table. Ive tried parition magic to make
the linux partitions and it still doesnt read it. Ive tried formatting the whole
hd and erasing the parititions, still did the same error. I also cant format
anything from diskdrake.

I hope you guys can help. Ive asked many many people and no one knows whats
wrong!

Thanks!
I apprechiate all help!

The only thing I can think of is that your linux partition extends past 1024 cylinders perhaps. If the BIOS ROM isn't seeing the hard drive right, this could also cause a problem...even though Windows works fine. You can have a really messed up partition table and never notice it, since windows will still work. See if you can run Norton Disk Doctor on it, you just need the NDD.exe dos version, to see what it says...it spots alot of problems, even though it can't always fix them.
