hey guys what would be the best linux for mac hardware (i have a really old crappy G3 mac). Or would sometype of BSD work better for it. Both operating systems will do what i need, i just wanted to see if any one of them stand out as a winner for working on a mac.

thanks for any help

Mandrake and SuSE are supposed to have decent PPC distributions. Debian's quality has always been top notch. Basically, I would try the ones you are used to first, and if they work keep them.

I'd install OpenBSD because that is what I have on most of my other machines. 😀

There is a distro specificly for Mac's, and it's called Yellowdog. You could give that a go. Most other distros have PowerPC versions, like Redhat, Suse, Mandrake. I suspect that Debian and/or Gentoo have the most linux+powerPC users out there.

As the monkeyman and drag said, most major distros have a ppc version.
You could try Mandrake since it has a graphical installer.
You could also try to pop in a knoppix cd to see which hw is supported..
