Linux keeps messing up my ip address and takes forever to boot

When I boot up with windows.. it's fine. It's been getting my ip address by DHCP like it has for the last year and a half.

I've also run linux before and it's never had a problem. In fact, I had it running last night with no problems.

However, when I boot up today, linux messes up DHCP somehow and of course since it can't find my Ip address it takes about 5 minutes to boot up. And then my net connection is broken until I go back into windows and get it working again, only to have linux break it once more.

I'm using mandrake 8 and I've never had a problem like this before with any of the mandrakes, and it's really interesting that it was working last night after I installed it but today it's crapping out.

Thanks a lot

I have noticed that it takes Linux a little longer to boot up when you are using dhcp and sometimes it times out and you have to bring it up yourself. I think this is more of a negotiation problem with linux waiting on the dhcp server than linux or nic themselves. So, if you ever have problems with it again see if you can bring the interface up yourself. I think Mandrake uses linuxconf so you could use that or you could do a

#ethX

X= which nic interface you want to bring up. If you have one nic it will be eth0 if you have more you have to lookup which nic is what.
