Linux ISDN auto dial

Fuzznuts

I am setting up a box for a client based on RH7.3 that will be a gateway for them using IPTABLES. The problem is this they have an application that connects out to the net everyso often during the night for updates. I cant get the linux box to auto dial the isdn line. I have set the dial mode to auto but still it wont dial.

If you fire up a browser and surf the net the line ISDN will autodial and all is well i assume this is because all the LAN browsers are running through squid. as squid is local to the gateway it will see that it needs to connect and dial up. how do i make packets from other machines on the lan trigger a connection????? this is driving me nuts 🙂
