Linux installation help!!!

I want to try Linux, so I downloaded Fedora Core 4 x86-64. The first thing the installation wizard asked me to do was check the five discs. Disc one passed, but discs 2-5 all failed. I thought it must be some mistake, so I tried continuing with the installation, despite the failed test. When it came time for me to insert disc 2, the wizard was unable to recognize it.

I was pretty bummed, because I had deleted the original *.iso files. So, I re-downloaded the second disc iso, and burned it again. I began the installation again, but the new disc failed the media test, too!

At this point, I figured maybe the files were corrupted on the main server, so I tried an alternate mirror. I downloaded the disc 2 iso again, burned it and tried the media test a third time: failure.

So, I thought, maybe there's something wrong with the latest Fedora isos. In any case, I didn't want to deal with it anymore, so I moved on and downloaded the SUSE 10 isos. And guess what? The SUSE discs don't work, either! It gives me a failed checksum error.

Now, although I'm not 100% certain, I'm reasonably sure the hardware isn't a problem. I use Taiyo Yuden CDRs and an NEC ND-1100A burner. At this point, I've cycled through 17 CDRs, all of them duds. That's over $5 in CDRs--and, being very poor, that's unacceptable. What am I to do?

ok do this, download the iso and download the SHA1SUM file . Then check that the hashes match before burning. Sounds like something is currupting your downloads. This program 'should' work for doing that.

other then that, download it with a program that automatically checks file integrity like bittorrent.
