Linux install issues with new setup

I just built a new pc with the e6400, gigabyte ds3 (with newest bios, f5 i think), 2 gigs patriot ram, 200gig hdd on the main ide cable, and cd rom on an ide expansion card.

Has anyone had any issues installing linux with this type of setup? I have tried multiple things including removing the ide exp card and installing through vmware and virtual pc. I am just wondering if it is due to the hardware setup. You can see my other posts at a linux forum here:
