I have added a new hd and hardware modem so that I could, run linux. My question is, I am going to have to go to my mom and dad's to download, so I need mutiple cd's to capture the most possible apps that I may use.

Its not going to be realistic to download most of this stuff on my computer. I use mainly, open office, and internet. I do have tuner card, ATI theater pro, and would like to convert this stuff to divx. so it would be nice to get most of the programs in some nice neat iso's if possible.

I have play with Ubuntu a little and an old version of mandrake.

You mean you want a distro with lots of packages ?

The most packages that come with a distro{iso} that I know would be SUSE and perhaps Debian

They both require DVD's , and have tons of packages
 
Suse is a good choice and you can always add an online package source after your installation. Might be a little slow with the modem but it's doable.

leaning towards Suse, added a couple of hard drives to the system. I made a 40 gig partion for linux and a 20 gig fat32 drive to swap files back and forth.
 
The current release of Debian is 14 CDs or 2 DVDs, that should cover most anything you would want to do. Anything else you might need can probably be found at the repositories at http://debian.video.free.fr/ and should be small enough for you to deal with downloading them at home if necessary.
