mmmk...couple questions. First, i'm trying to mount my NTFS partition in mandrake 7.2. I mounted it fine...but it can only be run when i'm a superuser/root. How can i make it so a non-root person can run files off it?

second: Does Apache make an FTP server for linux? I did some quick searching, but can only find info on Apache HTTP server. Is there another server i should be using instead of Apache for FTP like Samba?
that's all for now...

mmmk...i did the mounting on my own and actually learned something about linux. I did it in /etc/fstab. Now for the FTP software....

I believe there is information on the mounting thing in the FAQs. Please look through them. I saw your comment about being able to search but prefering to be spoon fed Linux info in OT, and I did not appreciate it.

There are several FTP servers for linux. Depending on your distrobution you could already have one installed. Try locate ftpd to find out. If you are using RedHat there is a good chance it is wu-ftp. In which case I recommend downloading proftp or pureftp.

For ftp your easiest bet is the package redhat includes with their distro for wu-ftpd

Yes you did, I was giving you another place to look for some information, thats all. I thought my comment was fairly polite and I apologize if I was wrong. I did throw some information about the FTP thing out there for you.

How can you tell, have we met? 😉

If you just want to copy files to other computers, you might look into scp. It's more secure than FTP.

If you must use FTP, I always used wu-ftp
