I think I am going to install Ubuntu linux on my computer as an alternative to Windows at least temporarily. I play games often and I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on gaming in linux. Mostly what I'm looking for is IF steam apps (CSS/HL2) Will work using cedega, and if it is a horribly difficult task.

thanks in advance.

They do work. I've played hl2 in cedega before. I've had a few issues, but nothing too major. It isn't difficult to get working, just follow the guides.

If you purchase the cedega stuff then you can get a nice little GUI for managing games and different versions of cedega (some games work better with different versions). So it's usually not difficult to get things to work that should.

Some sites to check out:

Personally I like playing a Enemy-Territory mod called 'TrueCombat:Elite'. Dispite it's name it's very fun if your into more of a tatical, but quick paced, shooter. Along the same lines as counter strike, some people considure it better (but I never realy played CS). The one buggy thing about it for me is that you need to disable wallmarks or it will seem to be laggy.

i used to be addicted to ET, quit playing before that mod was released.

Red Orchestra was great for UT2k3 as well....if i had a video card that was worth a damn in my laptops id waste so many hours on that stuff again

It's actually more of a standalone game then a mod realy. Just depends on how you look at it. It's fairly old also, but the original version was for Quake3 (they should of stuck with Quake3 since now it's GPL'd and they'd have a standalone game).

With my onboard 945G intel I can get the game playable if I compile development drivers. With ET it works even better.
