Linux from a Newbie

I know nothing about Linux. I do know windows. I am at a real disadvange here. I am using the ubuntu draper distro. I need to know how to get a ma111 usb wireless device to work. I found the driver, but know nothing about compiling. I am will to learn how to do it, but will need a real newbie tutorial walking me through it. I want to get away from windows and migrate over to linux, any help would be appreciate.

From what I understand there are numerous NIC fixes in the newest Ubuntu distrobution, Edgy Eft. I would suggest installing that before you continue.
