Linux for Playstation 2

It appears that Sony is releasing a version of Linux for the Playstation 2!

I doubt, however, that the processor in this particular gaming console will put out too many WU's per day. I expect it to be a dog.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though. 🙂

Hey, if I stay up a bit longer I might be able to make the first reply in Hellburner's morning stats post! 😀

I doubt there will ever be a SETI client for the PS2's line of CPU, so I doubt it'll be an issue. But given it's insane memory bus, I wouldn't be suprised to see it do fairly well.

PS2 itself runs on a 300 MHz processor of some sort (don't remember which, but definitely not Intel or AMD) and 32 MB RDRAM. From those specs, it seems hard to make PS2 a good SETI machine.

EDIT: The CPU is a 128-bit RISC (MIPS IV-subset) running @ 294.912 MHz

Logically thinking it should be equiv. to 1180MHz 32bit RISC processor...
