Linux for an everyday desktop pc?

I have used a great many distros over the past, and even though I'm *nix-competent, I still prefer Ubuntu for a desktop role, with only a couple of hangups.
1) Sneaky Ubuntu likes to clobber my MBR when I'm not looking, and make XP go away. This is probably my fault, as I insist on doing a lot of things 'manually'.
2) Its package tool actually understands package dependencies. Even in this day and age, there are plenty of distros' tools that do not.
3) Installation hassle is fairly low. I primarily use Ubtuntu linux's as dumb terminals... who wants to suffer for a dumb terminal?
4) UI is nice... same justification as 3

Of course, for servers I wouldn't dream of using Ubuntu (though I haven't tried Ubuntu server). For that, I would use debian, centOS, or Solaris, depending on the server.
