What type of firewall is linux. I want to use it to set up a dmz zone. Is it a stateful inspection or what. Also do you have any info on setting up dmz zones in linux. I'm using redhat 8.0.

question mark anyone? 'how good is linux for firewalling?' i assume is what you meant? i dont know about the real nitty gritty specifics, but as long as its not going to be a huge network load or a terribly complex firewall ruleset, then i'm sure it would work just fine for you.

IPTables is pretty nice speed wise. Its faster than PF (OpenBSD 3.0 -stable I think was what was tested) in stateless filters. With the right hardware you could filter a decent size pipe with a *good* IPTables ruleset.

I believe he is looking for netfilter.samba.org.
