Linux File Server configuration?

I have a PII 350 sitting idle, and want to make it into a file server. I have used Coyote Linux for a firewall, and would like to know if there is any other distributions like it for a file server. Any thoughts? I can never get Samba working properly for some reason...

Anandtech has a good FAQ on setting up Samba. Have you tried looking at it?

If you want a simple to use pre-configured package you could try e-smith.

For a good distribution to use as a server, assuming you have at least rudimentary linux knowledge, the clear choice is Debian.
