Linux FC5: ping and dig no error, but firefox fails dns lookups

When I ping or dig a domain name both succeed, but Firefox fails to
connect to the web site.

I could use some suggestions on what to try or what is the source of
the problem.

Thanks!

Update: Konqueror broswer works with out problem, so I guess it's a
Firefox problem or a configuration issue.

"connecting to www.google.com..." then "connection has timed out", for example

using IP from dig in place of domain name seems to work

As I mentioned above, Konqueror broswer works with out problem.

Try clearing your DNS cache - maybe FF is using faulty stored data but Konquerer is sending a request every time?... This occasionally fixes problems with FF on windows for me.

By default there is no DNS cache in Linux, you shouldn't have bind installed unless you explicitly configured it AFAIK.

Well, that explains why I couldn't find instructions on how to clear it!

I guess it's plan B, uninstall/reinstall, when I have time!
