Linux (FC4) Memory Usage

Friends,

I have noticed something that I "think" is strange on an FC4 box, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has any ideas.

The box has a gig of ram and a couple gigs of swap.

This box doesn't do a whole lot, a VERY SMALL forum using phpBB and a few web pages and such. I ssh'ed into the box and ran top to take a look at things. The thing that caught my eye was that there were only about 70MB free out of the gig. I couldn't really find anything using more than a percent of so each. I went into the KDE desktop and looked at memory via KInfoCenter and it showed the following:

Total Physical Mem: 1011.59 MB
Application Data: 272.18
Disk Buffers: 53.38
Disk Cache: 713.62 MB

Is that a normal amount for the system to be using as a disk cache? Granted, the memory isn't being used for anything else, so it could just be using memory the best it can while it has it and perhaps it will let it go once something else needs it. If that's the case, then I suppose everything is fine. If that's NOT the case... anyone have any idea what is causing this and how to make Linux allocate memory more efficiently?

Many Thanks,

Joe

It's normal, if the memory wasn't being used you should be worried. Or at least angry because you spent money on hardware that's not being utilized =)
