hey guys, just wanted to post about a bug ive encountered, that has caused me serious aggravation, might help others. if you are planning on installing linux (i used fedora specifically) in a dual boot setup be wary. Apparently even if you install linux on a seperate HD as i did, it alters the partition(s) of your win installation, therefore not allowing you to boot it any longer. the data wont be nec. lost, but you will have to manually reconfigure your partition again. (finding out this was the prob was not fun) heres a link with much more detail... http://www.redhat.com/archives...2004-May/msg00908.html hopefully sumone will read this and save themselves some headaches.

Is this just a Fedora issue or is this common with Linux distros? I ask because I'll be installing Suse Pro 9.1 in a dual boot environment with XP pro pretty soon.

I never had a problem putting Mandrake on a seperate hard drive and using lilo as the boot loader. That was Mandrake 9.1. I really want to try out Fedora and also wonder if this issue a fedora thing. Any others here installed Fedora on a seperate hard drive without an issue?

I have been playing around with multiple boots for awhile and most Distro's include Windows in the
boot loader whether Lilo or Grub. Mandrake10 had no problem and Suse 9.1 also. But Fedora I am
not sure of. When I installed it I chose to install grub on Fedora's partition and then copied and pasted it in Blag's grub.conf. which already had Windows configured Ok.
I noticed a problem with multiple Linux installs that Mandrake10 and Suse 9.1 see my hard
drive as hda while all the rest of the distros that are installed see it as hde. Fedora Core 2 sees
my drive as hde so it installs Ok. I can get them to start to boot but then I get a kernel panic
message which I think results from tagging the drive differently.
