I put SuSE Linux 9.0 back on my desktop today, multi-booting with WinXP and Win98SE. I get dsl internet through Earthlink, with the PPPoE built into the dsl modem so that all I need to do is plug it into my ethernet port and set the ehternet adapter to use DHCP. It's been working well in Windows (both versions), but after installing the nForce2 drivers in Linux (for my Abit NF7-S) the internet has been very slow with Linux. I used ifconfig to change the MTU to 1492 (got this figure from references on the net and testing different MTUs), can ping servers with consistently good results, but web browsing is so slow that for a while I thought it just wasn't working, until I let it run for a couple of minutes to load each page.
Any ideas on how to get it up to speed? Any more info needed?
