Are there any distributions of Linux (other than Ubuntu) that comes (by default) with the combination of Firefox browser & Evolution e-mail program ?

Thanks.

It is not that I am ignoring it, I basically like what I see but it's graphical interface (at least at it's default install) leaves a little to be desired (and yes, I have looked at Kubuntu and it goes to far the other way - overkill) (I would like something in between these two) but that has Firefox & Evolution both of which I really like.

Thanks.

Well your two main choices are Gnome and KDE, if you don't like them then any distribution will do since you'll have to setup your desktop manually anyway.

The nice thing about Linux (Gnome I should say) is you can really customize it. I removed one of the 'panels' and combined everything on one so it's more like I'm used to. I also added a cool looking Ubuntu background and changed the theme to something other than that ugly (IMO) brown and added some cool desktop items with gdesklets.

In short, don't let the default interface steer you away from Ubuntu. 🙂

Most of them do, and if not it's not hard to do an

apt-get install firefox
emerge firefox
yum install firefox

etc etc...

What is it about the GUI that you do not like?

Gnome tries to merge a Windows-like taskbar and OS X-like hiding-stuff.
KDE has features, features, and more features.
XFCE is simple and direct, if a bit minimal, and makes accessing stuff easier (right-click desktop menu has everything), but then ignores Fitts' Law.
Enlightenment E16 is nice, but oddball, and showing its age (considering how old it is, it's pretty awesome).
Enlightenment E17 is very nice, IMO, but still needs polishing.
Fluxbox is cool, but minimal to an insane degree.
...and that's just off the top of my head.

Choice is something you have a lot of, even in Ubuntu.

I dont know any linux distros that do not have firefox and evolution. And even if for some reason they were not packaged, you could compile them.

Pretty much every single Linux distro? 😉

But I cannot see a reason why you would not be able to install it. If you can't install FireFox you are going to have lots of troubles installing anything else you may want on there.

I wouldn't recommend anyone try to compile Evolution, it's got a dependency list a mile long.
