I have a Win98 machine hooked up to a cable modem now. I would like to setup a Linux box as a DHCP server and NAT router. I know how to do this with Win2k, but does Linux support NAT and DHCP? When I set it up with Win2k, all I had to do was set the internal clients to get DHCP from the Win2k server, then it filled in all the necessary info. Is this possible with Linux?

Another question, I have a really only 10BaseT Intel Ethernet card. Will that be supported under Linux.

BTW, I would use Win2k, but it's a Pentium 75 with 16MB of RAM.

Yes this can be done with Linux. For NAT you would set it up as a firewall using ipchains or the brand new (RedHat 7.1) iptables.

Here are some links for you, some are a bit older.

Why not just download Freesco? Its a small linux router/firewall/server. Simple to install and setup. Can run on just a floppy disk.

Not sure if the NIC will work. I use an SMC and Realtek.

I highly recommend freesco. www.freesco.org

I'd use my Linksys router for this, but as long as the NIC's an NE2000 compatible you should be fine. If it's a tulip chip look out!!!!!!:Q
