Linux conflicts, how bad can it be??

I have a Dell Dem. 8100, P4, 128MB RDRAM a NVIDIA TNT model64 32MB video card(AGP),a conexant 56k v90 modem. Does anyone know if any of this will have a conflict if I hook up another HD to boot Linux off of? I realize this is alot to ask about but I am really wanting to learn Linux and have read that I may encounter some conflicts with things.

That's why I came here, always get helpful info.

Well...only if the modem is a WINMODEM... Not many of those 1% hardware, 90% windows software based modems work..

Other than that... I bet it works just fine.

You can actually order Dell Dimensions pre-installed with Linux, so I think they have most everything you need on their site:

Your winmodem probably doesn't work. Also, make sure that you have linux with newer kernel than 2.2.16, P4 just isn't compatible with older ones.

I have heard the ISA Best Data modem avail at CompUSA for less than $60 is supposed to work... but I have not tried it.

I use an expensive USR external modem that work bought me....


External modems are the best you can get by far.
