Linux + Conexant + Hair loss

Hi all,

(Yet another post in the ongoing saga of Linux + PCI modems...)

I installed Mandrake 9 today + KDE 3 on a spare machine, totally vaped it and let Mandrake run its Recommended setup thing. Got the Conexant drivers for Linux (http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/), installed them and dialed my ISP. Everything goes fine, until I try and actually hit a site (or ping, mail, etc), where it doesn't look like the DNS servers are setup properly- Mozilla just sits there trying to "Resolve site <x>" and them timeouts.

After screwing around a lot I figured I'd broken the installation, and so vaped the machine again and reinstalled, this time however, I setup the Internet connection as being a modem on /dev/modem (oops) before installing the drivers (this was done during setup).

Installed the drivers, selected /dev/modem in KPPP, "Modem is not responding". Delete the /dev/modem entry, create a new one to point to /dev/ttySHSF0 (that's what the driver sets up) using 'link' (is that right?), now the modem still isn't responding, reinstalling the drivers doesn't do anything, /dev/modem doesn't show up in Konquerer, but "rm /dev/modem" deletes something.

Can someone *pleeeease* advise me what I'm doing wrong here, I've got everything else that I want to use working except this and it's driving me round the bend.

Thanks,

I thought of that, but it's only got ttyS0 thru 4 listed, you can't just type it in and this is causing me a serious headache now!

Anyone? Pleeeeeease!! 🙂
