Where might I find a list or information on which modems work with linux , or a list of winmodems?
I currently have a rockwell 56K modem, which is a winmodem, so I'd like to upgrade.
All help is much appreciated!

I was looking for this info a while back and found what I was looking for with a Google search for "pci hardware modems".

Here is a summary:

1) If you want a modem you KNOW will work with Linux, get an external.

2) Most ISA modems will work unless they are a 3Com Winmodem. If they have jumpers on them, they will work.

3) Few PCI modems are true hardware modems and work traditionally with Linux. Here are the PCI modems known to be controller based:

USR Model 5610
USR Model 5613 Internet Gaming Modem
Multitech MultiModem model MT5634ZPX-PCI
ActionTec PCI56012-01CW Internal PCI Call Waiting Modem
IBM model 33L4618
Topic model MF-56PCI-TP

4) There has been some work to develop winmodem "drivers" for Linux. The development is underway and has been become known as "Linmodems". I decided not to even try to make a Linmodem work, so I avoided them. I'd suggest finding more information by going to Google's Linux and searching for "linmodems".

Good Luck.
