Linux backup solution?

What I'm looking for is the best way to back up the system including bootable recovery system, and backup data. Data and system will be no
more than 20GB, probablly less. I'd like to stay away from SCSI and in an ideal world the backup device would be external. The machine currently has a CD-RW but I don't think that will be an adaquate solution. I'm also not sure what software is available under linux to run scheduled incremental and full backups. Any suggestions are appreciated.
