I have version 1.0.0 of this driver. where and what is the latest version as I can't find it w/ google. All I find are discussions of it.

I am running Redhat 8 with the 2.4.20-19.8smp kernel...

If it works fine, then keep it. Most of the times, upgrading something that works fine (i.e. as good as you want it to) causes nothing but headaches.

thanks! I found that page. Which lead me to this page. But I didn't look beyong that cuz it was talking about aic7xxx not aic79xx. Guess I didn't look hard enough.

so I download http://people.freebsd.org/~gibbs/linux/RPM/aic79xx/aic79xx-1.3.11-rh80.i686.rpm which is the latest version for redhat 8. HOWEVER, when I install the RPM it says that a prebuilt module for my kernel cannot be found, and it doesn't give any info on what to do. Has anyone already made an rpm for the 2.4.20-19.8smp kernel?

Sorry, didn't notice the "smp" there. Hmm... Adaptec's page doesn't seem to have an smp rpm version, and the only source code is for the 1.1 version. Looks like maybe they're not releasing their source for 1.3. In that case, you might be screwed. Looks like the author of that LKML message, Gibbs, is the maintainer - I'd mail him and ask.
