Hey, I have a SATA drive in my system and I was wanting to try out Fedora Core 2 on my desktop PC. However I can't seem to find drivers for my board.

The best I could find on SiL's site was this.

But RedHat 8 is more than a little old, and since its a precompiled kernel I'm pretty sure thats not going to work.

So does anyhave any experience installing Linux on a Abit NF7-S using the sata controller?

Is it even worth the hassle?

It's doable, but not easy. With a 2.6 kernel it's not as bad.
I don't have experience with the NF7-S, but I did get Gentoo to install on my FIC AU-13 which uses the same Silicon Image 3112 SATA controller. Check out Thomas Horsten's page for info on a working driver. It looks like Fedora Core 2 uses the 2.6 kernel, so you won't need Horsten's kernel module but he gives a link to another site that has a patch for the initrd which will detect any RAID arrays you have set up.
