Ok, I have run into an odd problem setting up a linux 2.4 box using Alsa sound drivers.

I am currently running the alsa 1.0.4 version of the alsa-drivers, libs, uitls.

Now I recently build the drivers for a box that has an audigy 2 sound card.
I had no problem with that. Sound works fine, and the alsa sound modules work.

So I try on a box with an integrated intel 810 chip.

Now I figured it would go just as easy and followed the same steps. But this time.
I have a slight problem. It seems as though the mixer isn't working right.

At first I thought the drivers were not working correctly, which they still might
not be, because I wasn't getting sound. What I found out was the volume of
the sound isn't being controled by the Volume control (in volume control), but
by the PCM control. So when I turned that up, I got sound. Now I know thats
not right, but I am not sure why its like this.

If anyone has any ideas why this might be happening I would appreciate it.

I think it just depends on the card. on mine, PCM, and master volume up the sound level. it changes enough that most sound mixer applets let you pick which one is the actual sound volume that they display

Ok, after alittle more investigation.

It appears that PCM and Headphone control my volume.

It works so I guess I shouldn't complain, but Its just doesn't seem right.
