I found this article via a link at the Inq. In short, it says that the 7800GTX is not running correctly under the 76.67 drivers. The reason it gives is that the card is still running at 2D speeds (275 MHz), not 3D speeds (430 MHz). Seeing as I have ordered several 7800 GTXs for work, where we use 3D apps all the time under Linux, I am curious to know if others have seen this problem.

Summary thus far for Linux & latest drivers:

1. Automatic 2D/3D clock switching not working on the 7800GTX.
2. 7800GTX limited to 415 MHz.

According to this post, it is a bug in the drivers. He modifies the BIOS in the end and is able to get satisfactory results. It looks like NVidia needs to get out an update ASAP for Linux & the 7800GTX.

Quake3 :: 6400x3600 @ 25 fps :: 23+ Million Pixels

:)

Seriously, right now I am running a scientific visualization dataset comprised of 60 Million triangles on a 3x4 tiled display. Each 1600x1200 display is driven by a Quadro 3400. I have thirteen 7800GTX's on order since I am vertex bound. I guess I will not be installing them until a new driver comes out. Of couse, I would like to run with SLI, but that is not out for Linux yet either.
