You see so many people on this forum recommending the 6600GT, suprised this hasnt been mentioned here. Seems lots of people are having a hard time with it.

My question is does anyone have a 6600GT working under linux/bsd? Weird enough when I tried running glxgears and tuxracer it works fine but when starting ET it just freezes and I get kicked back to desktop. This is the error I get under dmesg:

i have a 6800GT, but 2 of my friends have 6600GT's with no problems in linux. Although we dont play ET. But it works in UT2004 for us and in cedega.

I have a 6600GT and have had it working in every distribution I have tried with drivers from the 6000's and up. Currently it is using the newest drivers on my Gentoo installation, and I haven't had a problem with any 3D apps.

I normally use the generic nv driver in linux vs. the proprietary driver from nvidia. less things seem to break that way, and yes, I have a 6600GT.

yeah but no acceleration then...

i'm using the 7676 driver. I'll post my xorg.conf when I get home (I went to bed after posting last night). Its perty standard though.

From memory its just driver nvidia renderaccel true and the transparencys turned on. But I'll post it when I get home.
