Whilst it is impressive you have to account some of it being a good deal on the laptop itself. A free OS is a good lure in a difficult consumer climate.

Which I have, whilst being better placed to look into it being that I'm in a non-US country myself. 🙂 I know many eastern European countries that have no legacy MS software are well ahead on linux for new distributions.Originally posted by: Nothinman

And you also have to consider that Linux has made a lot more inroads in non-US countries. Lots of people/companies over there aren't as locked into MS software like we are and lots of them would rather not support a US company unless they have to.
I'm still slightly wary of some decisions, particularly in public sector turning bad because they see a free price tag up front and forget about any sort of support and maintenance cost during the lifecycle of the system.
