i waas wondering if these are good OS's cuz i got em both for free and i was not sure if it was even worth it to install it on my old vaio computer

Both are ok.

I'd lean towards Ubuntu, though. Try that and be sure to read the FAQ and the guides aviable online. They wil help out a lot with dealing with most common issues that people have.

I've heard some horrid things about Linspire, while I've not really heard much of anything bad about Ubuntu... I'd go that way. 😉

I'd chip in for Ubuntu as well. I'm pleased that Linspire is making it into the "dangerously cheap retail box" market; but I'm not terribly impressed by it.

Linspire is linux minus the whole security thing. If you want to go with Linspire, just go with Windows. It's good for stepping into linux for the first time though. Ubuntu is OK--it's probably the easiest Debian-based distro. If I were you though, I'd go with Fedora Core 4. fedora.redhat.com
